چکیده

Background Our study compares the effect of acute proximal stenosis of a coronary artery supplying a myocardial perfusion bed with that of stenosis of an adjacent artery resulting in collateral flow diversion supplied by the same perfusion bed. These alterations in coronary physiology were quantified by digital angiographic impulse response analysis of contrast material mean transit time for the coronary microcirculation, Tmicro, and by flowmeter and microsphere assessment of flow and regional flow distribution. Methods and Results In 25 open-chest, anesthetized dogs, progressive circumflex artery stenosis led to a concordant decrease of circumflex artery resting and hyperemic flow, coronary flow reserve, and inverse angiographic mean transit time Tmicro(P<.01). Progressive left anterior descending artery stenosis led to no or only minor changes of circumflex artery resting or hyperemic flow or flow reserve; only occlusion induced a significant decrease of coronary flow reserve (from 4.0±0.7 to 3.2+0.5, P<.05), whereas resting flow was in-

Is there functional collateral flow during vascular occlusion in angiographically normal coronary arteries?

BACKGROUND Thus far, it is unknown whether there is functional collateral flow through preexisting anastomoses in patients with angiographically normal coronary arteries. Such preformed coronary collateral vessels could form the basis for subsequently developing protective natural bypasses in the presence of coronary artery disease. METHODS AND RESULTS Among 100 patients, the collateral flow ...

Regional myocardial blood flow in man during dipyridamole coronary vasodilation.

Regional myocardial blood flow before and after intravenous dipyridamole (0.56 mg/kg) was measured during cardiac catheterization in 11 patients using the 133Xe washout technique. Significant increases in heart rate (75 +/- 4 vs 87 +/- 6, p less than 0.004) and decreases in systolic blood pressure (144 +/- 8 vs 131 +/- 7, p less than 0.02) were observed with dipyridamole infusion. However, doub...

Effect of coronary stenosis on adjacent bed flow reserve: assessment of microvascular mechanisms using myocardial contrast echocardiography.

BACKGROUND During coronary stenosis, flow reserve in the adjacent nonstenotic bed decreases, but the microvascular mechanisms are unknown. Because myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) assesses microvascular physiology, we used it to relate flow reserve to intramyocardial blood volume in the adjacent bed. METHODS AND RESULTS A noncritical left anterior descending (LAD) stenosis was creat...

Contractility of intrarenal arteries in Goldblatt hypertensive rabbits.

The present investigation contractile responses of microdissected intrarenal arcuate arteries from sham-operated rabbits and two-kidney, one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rabbits at 2 and 12 weeks after procedure. Arcuate arteries from both kidneys of the sham-operated rabbits and stenotic and nonstenotic kidneys of the Goldblatt hypertensive rabbits were studied. Mean arterial blood pressures of...
